Senior Structural Engineering Project Manager - Foxborough, MA The Senior Project Manager (SPM) oversees the entire structural design process from inception to completion. The SPM applies engineering standards and leverages industry-specific software to manage design and documentation tasks. With expertise in structural engineering concepts and building codes, the Senior PM supervises project work, coordinates with clients, architects, municipal agencies, and other team members, and provides creative solutions within the project framework. They handle cost and personnel estimation, proposal preparation, and contribute to project staffing discussions.

Responsibilities

Provides expertise in problem-solving, decision-making, and the implementation of standard engineering procedures to direct the flow of engineering.

Oversees the production work of junior engineers and BIM technicians.

Recognizes relationships between isolated project issues and identifies critical issues.

Performs design and analysis of mid to high-rise buildings using software such as ETABS, SAP, and RAM.

Leads junior teammates in problem solving and uses sound judgement to select effective approaches.

Manages project changes and reallocates resources to meet deliverables.

Responsible for completing structural analysis, preparing plans and specifications, and shop drawings.

Reviews RFIs and contractor submittals to ensure alignment with design plans and specifications.

Coordinates structural design with clients, project architects, municipal agencies, and other team members.

Maintains and updates Design Criteria and ensures progress toward project completion.

Keeps up to date with latest codes and engineering developments; implements design standards across projects.

Develops new approaches and provides recommendations where necessary; reviews document progress and forecasts workload and schedules.

Manages project timelines and hours allocation; oversees sub-contractors and construction contracts.

Ensures accuracy and high level of detail across all work; applies strong critical thinking and data-driven problem solving.

Communication Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication with clients, teammates, and management.

Effective verbal and non-verbal communication to cultivate professional relationships.

Writes accurate, clear correspondence and reports; obtains and utilizes input from teammates.

Leads and contributes to meetings; presents clearly and records outputs and actions.

Confident public speaking and well-structured presentations and meetings.

Provides timely feedback and negotiates professionally to maintain client relationships.

Business Development and Revenue Generation

Monitors resource utilization, project budgets, and labor revenue; ensures accuracy in labor charging across the project.

Provides input on project budgeting and collections; prepares fee proposals and mentors teammates in this area.

Understands project scopes, contracts, and related subjects; contributes to business development through client relationships and networking.

Identifies market opportunities and on-selling opportunities within DeSimone’s service offerings.

Teamwork and Leadership

Demonstrates company values and acts as a role model; trains and mentors project team members.

Maintains a positive, proactive attitude and supports high team performance.

Drives on-time project delivery, teamwork, accountability, and ongoing professional development.

Internal Operations

Completes timesheets, uses project codes correctly, and meets training requirements.

Adheres to Health, Safety and Environmental requirements on internal and client sites where applicable.

Collaborates with Shared Services to achieve business goals and opportunities for process improvements.

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and twelve (12) years of industry experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high-rise buildings; or

Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field; and ten (10) years of industry experience in structural analysis and design of mid to high-rise buildings.

Minimum 9 years of experience in performing and supervising the design and analysis of mid to high-rise buildings.

Minimum 9 years of experience using software such as ETABS, RAM, RISA, Rhino, PCA and SAFE.

Minimum 9 years of experience with wind tunnel testing process, applying wind tunnel loads to the lateral model, and supplemental damping strategies.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Project management experience in leading construction document preparation, schedules, details, and specifications.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; team leadership ability; knowledge of local and national building codes.

Experience with concrete, structural steel, masonry, wood, and light gauge structures; ability to work with contractors on construction issues.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering or related field (preferred).

Structural Engineer (SE) license (preferred).
