Armtec Defense Technologies is an operating unit of the TransDigm Group (NYSE: TDG). Armtec is comprised of three business units producing subcomponents for ordnance in Coachella, CA; decoy countermeasure flares in Camden AR; and radar countermeasure chaff in Lillington NC. This position is stationed in Coachella, at Armtec’s production facility for felted fiber nitrocellulose combustible cartridge cases for military ammunition and pyrophoric payloads for training grenades. Armtec supports the US and allied war-fighters by defending democracy and protecting freedom.

Job Summary Industrial Engineers at Armtec Defense Technologies are responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving production layouts and processes to increase productivity and reduce waste. They improve the documentation and specifications for production processes, including operator work loops and takt-driven process configurations to optimize performance and institutionalize learning on production systems. Our products involve energetic materials, so safety is paramount. We strive to operate a pull-based lean production system with clear operator signals and processes. Equipment includes electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems that convert nitrocellulose-based fibrous slurries into hard compression-molded parts that are shaped and finished.
Primary Responsibilities
Track, analyze, and use product and process data to identify opportunities to improve the system and reduce rejects, down time, material costs, and labor hours
Design and develop efficient pull-system process flows for various takt times using Lean and industrial engineering principles
Develop operator standard work sequences, standard work maps, and operator load charts
Design and develop job aids, fixtures, workstations, etc. to improve operator work cycles
Lead projects and kaizen events to accomplish improvement goals
Train staff on new processes and provide instructions and manuals
Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to design and develop job aids, fixtures, and workstations
Work with internal customers on technical issues
Improve manufacturing efficiencies, output, and reduce costs
Stay informed concerning new technologies, materials, and equipment, and investigate potential applications
Understand and adhere to Armtec’s ethics and business conduct policies
Qualifications
5+ years of experience applying Lean production methodologies, including pull systems and kanbans, to smooth production flow and meet takt
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Ability to collect and analyze production data to identify trends and correlations; experience with statistical analysis; Six Sigma Green Belt or higher preferred
Creativity and ability to focus on rapid prototyping / rapid design-test cycles to continuously learn and improve
Documentation and organization skills
Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
Dependable, responsible, detail-oriented, and able to work with people effectively
Prefer experience with manufacturing for energetics processing and DoD safety requirements
Education & Professional Work Experience Requirements
Minimum 4-year degree in industrial engineering or related field and 5+ years of engineering experience in a lean manufacturing environment
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government
Work Hours & Travel
4/10 work week M-Thu with the ability to support off-hours periodically as production needs require.
