Overview Coffman Engineers serves as both prime and sub consultant on projects across commercial, retail, institutional, government, industrial sectors, and project/construction management. Since 1979, we have 23 locations serving clients across the United States and overseas. We assemble teams from civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and corrosion control, along with project/construction managers and professionals in related disciplines.
Job Description The right team is a game changer. We are seeking an entrepreneurial, dynamic, innovative, and quality-oriented Fire Protection Engineer (at least seven years) to join our team. The office is willing to train the right individual in this growing discipline.
Responsibilities include: smoke control analysis and special inspection, fire resistant construction analysis, automatic suppression system design, fire detection, alarm and mass notification system design, life-safety code analysis, egress analysis, and general fire protection and life safety concepts and research. You will work with a multi-discipline team to meet client objectives and promote professional growth.
Work arrangement: hybrid, in-person three days a week (minimum) with remote days available (currently Monday and Friday). Guidelines are reassessed periodically.
In this Role You Will:
Be a positive contributor to office and department goals, culture, and morale.
Utilize computer skills for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, simple graphics, fire dynamic simulation, and CAD.
Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients to meet expectations.
Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution.
Analyze existing fire protection systems; design new systems including suppression, detection, alarm, and mass notification.
Assess and interpret building and fire codes.
Develop project management skills for internal projects and external client work.
Attend and participate in local and national professional organizations (e.g., SFPE).
Compensation And Benefits
Approximate base salary – $90,000 - $145,000 annually based on experience.
Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate.
Competitive end-of-year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance.
Hybrid work schedule (subject to change).
401k with up to 5% employer matching for 9% employee contribution.
Qualifications
BS degree in engineering or related science from an accredited university (Fire Protection-specific degree desired).
EIT required. Licensed California PE desired.
7+ years of professional experience in Fire Protection consulting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and US design standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience coordinating with a multi-discipline design team.
Proficiency with Bluebeam, AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Experience with CONTAM, fire dynamic simulation, Pathfinder, and/or other fire protection modeling software.
Experience managing day-to-day client relationships and participating in local professional organizations (e.g., SFPE).
Experience performing building and fire code analysis and code interpretations; developing engineering judgements for code alternatives.
Experience designing fire protection systems and evaluating existing systems; project management skills for internal and external projects.
Experience with Energy Storage Systems.
