Valmont Industries, Inc.
Valmont is seeking a Quality Engineer (QE) to develop, manage and support quality engineering efforts within the QA/QC organizations. The role spans process development and documentation, root cause and corrective action, evaluating alternatives to existing methods, and project management. The QE will collaborate with multiple departments and interact with managers, supervisors, and other contributors to drive continuous improvements related to quality and overall operations performance, including establishing and achieving quality metrics. This position may assist with supplier evaluation as needed.
Essential Functions
Travel up to 50% based on position location Identify, mitigate, or eliminate risks related to meeting codes, engineering specifications, and customer specifications; ensure processes and procedures are documented, implemented, and executed Serve as a quality liaison between QA, supply chain, operations, and design engineering when quality problems affect product quality Interpret Valmont quality requirements, including QMS documents, specifications, engineering prints and external standards (e.g., AISC, ASTM, AWS) Lead and participate in formal problem-solving events, including guiding team members not directly reporting to the QE Drive quality improvement processes using tools such as PFMEA, process flow charts, control plans, capability studies, MSA/Gage R&R, SPC, etc. Utilize LEAN principles to minimize waste in QC activities Define quality processes for new product introduction as needed Lead quality teams through process improvement events Develop, communicate, and implement quality best practices Interface with customers to eliminate nonconformance; may include jobsite visits Work with QA and Operations management to establish and meet quality metrics Seek cost savings opportunities related to quality improvements Prepare and report quality activity updates for management Participate in customer specification reviews Conduct business in compliance with laws of jurisdictions where we operate Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders Physical requirements: capable of lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, with more frequent lifting up to 20 pounds; perform manual labor in the field, wear PPE, and work outdoors in varying weather Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or 9+ years of relevant experience Experience in quality assurance or quality control Six Sigma Green Belt certification Strong understanding and application of statistics related to quality (sampling plans, data analysis, SPC, process capability, etc.) Proficiency with Six Sigma tools (PFMEA, CP, root cause analysis, MSA, etc.) Ability to use MiniTab or equivalent statistical software Ability to read and interpret engineering prints and specifications Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently Ability to lead projects with cross-functional teams including mid-level managers Ability to work with people at all organizational levels and with certifying body auditors Ability to work with customers to support quality efforts Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, plus organizational and follow-up abilities Proven ability to deliver effective group presentations and training Detail-oriented and capable of autonomous work Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Willingness to perform manual labor in the field, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years in a metals manufacturing environment including structural welding Five years of QA/QC experience Experience in metals fabrication including structural welding Manufacturing experience related to transmission, distribution, lighting, communications, and substation products Knowledge of DOT certification requirements by state jurisdiction Experience dealing with customers and auditing agencies Detailed understanding of AISC, ISO, and DOT requirements Six Sigma Green, Black or Master Black Belt Experience with MiniTab NDTo experience with VT, MT, UT is preferred Benefits
