Job Summary

Performs technical engineering inspection work for the Village of Wellington (Village). Work involves providing technical direction to the Utility Director and Senior Engineer(s) and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and inspection methods/techniques. The role is performed under some supervision with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Functions

Inspects all phases and types of water and sewer construction under the direction of a Senior Engineer or Project Manager, including water main, force main, gravity sewer main, lift station, grease trap pumping, water meter, and backflow compliance testing. Inspects equipment, structures, or infrastructure to detect defects or flaws using engineering tools such as measuring devices and specialized software. Prepares inspection reports detailing findings and maintains an accurate account and detailed record of work progression. Attends pre‑work and progress meetings for capital improvement projects and meets with the public regarding Village Utility work that may affect their property. Conducts interim and final inspections of new facilities before acceptance by the Village. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree may be required in some areas. Four (4) years of directly related experience, including previous lead‑worker responsibility or demonstrated ability to lead the work of others, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. Certifications And Licenses

State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Training Certification. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of the design, development, and review of engineering specifications for civil and/or environmental construction projects. Knowledge of current engineering principles and practices applied in planning, location, design, construction, operation and maintenance of roads, storm and sanitary sewers, buildings and other public facilities. Knowledge of applicable state, county, and Village laws, codes, ordinances, resolutions, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of water and sewer facility design and construction standards. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction plans and specifications and to recognize deviations from such plans in the construction process. Physical Requirements

Moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Environmental Requirements

Exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature extremes, noise, machinery, moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease or pathogenic substances.
