The Data Center Facilities Team is responsible for assisting in maintaining several mission-critical facilities geographically distributed across the East Lansing campus for MSU Information Technology (MSU IT).
Reporting to the Data Center Facilities Manager, the Data Center Engineer I will primarily perform the following duties:
Capacity Planning & Management – Ensure adequate resources are available to support customer installations (power, network, future expansion, etc.)
Facility Maintenance & Management – Work collaboratively with Infrastructure teams and vendors to coordinate maintenance of power, cooling, security, and network resources.
Hardware Installation and Configuration – Physically install and decommission servers, PDUs, network, and other data center hardware.
Documentation – Maintain exceptional accuracy of DCIM software, procedures, and policies.
Asset Management – Assist in auditing MSU IT and data center customer assets.
Incident and Request Response – Monitor ticketing system and provide response in a timely manner.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology Data Center Engineering area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Leadership and organizational skills
Ability to identify and resolve problems by exercising excellent judgment
The ability to clearly and concisely communicate both orally and in writing
Data Center related certifications such as: RCDD, CDCMP, CDCDP
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. of hardware (i.e., Servers, Switches, etc.)
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
Support knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) monitoring tools
