Responsibilities

Supervises and participates in inspecting all phases of the construction of highways and/or independently inspects a wide variety of highway and highway related construction projects; may train and supervise the work of lower-level inspectors; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements: Basic Education/Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; or work experience which involved tasks that demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling and arithmetic; ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; and the ability to write simply and directly. General Experience:

ONE (1) YEAR of work experience in one or a combination of A or B below: A.

Journey level experience in a construction trade. This experience must have required the ability to read and interpret blue-prints or plans. B.

Progressively responsible experience performing a variety of technical, non-professional engineering tasks under general supervision. This experience must have involved inspectional work and must be comparable to the State of Hawaii Engineering Aid III level position. The Engineering Aid III performs a variety of routine technical, non-professional engineering tasks under general supervision. Specialized Experience:

Applicant must possess THREE (3) YEARS of progressively responsible work experience in the inspection of phases of the construction of highways to ascertain whether construction methods, practices and materials conform to plans and specifications, contracts, agreements, and methods of work.
