Overview
Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Field Service Technician in Edgewood, Maryland. The Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment at customer sites. A high school diploma or GED is required. We offer a sign-on bonus up to $5,000 for new hires, with $2,500 payable after 90 days of employment and the remaining $2,500 payable after 180 days of employment.
Responsibilities
Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment at customer sites.
Perform mechanical service and repairs to Caterpillar and related competitive equipment as required.
Qualifications and Bonus Eligibility
Minimum of three years of relevant heavy equipment field experience to be eligible for the $5,000 sign-on bonus.
Candidates with less than three years of heavy equipment field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus.
Must have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills and strong mechanical aptitude.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, interact professionally with customers and all levels of personnel, and communicate effectively (verbal and written).
Self-directed, well organized with the ability to prioritize workload while delivering excellent customer service.
Proficient use of technical software, databases and manuals; ability to learn and apply new knowledge.
Must have an excellent driving record and a valid Commercial Driver's license, or the ability to obtain one; DOT certification with DOT Medical Card may be required.
Willingness to work any shift and overtime as needed to meet business and customer demands.
Compensation and Benefits Starting Compensation Range:
$29.26 - $41.04 per hour
Actual base pay may vary based on experience, skills, qualifications, education, geographic location, and other business needs. Total compensation may include participation in performance-based incentive programs, such as discretionary or non-discretionary plans.

401(k) with employer match up to 6% (range $0.75 to $1.25 per $1 contributed).
