Oncology Nurse Coordinator

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Summary: Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates the plan of care using the nursing process and proactively anticipates patient needs; provides individual assistance to patients, families and care givers throughout the course of treatment; organizes multi-disciplinary and/or multi-centered care, facilitates effective communication with care providers, and provides education for patients within their primary disease site; coordinates all education and training required for the care team; responsible for the patient experience by ensuring excellent customer service and timely management of any patient complaints; ensures that all patient questions and/or concerns are referred to the proper department and addressed in a timely manner; serves as the point of contact for patients with questions about their plan of care, as well as the point of contact for the attending and all consulting physicians.

Responsibilities

Assess, develop, implement and evaluate the plan of care using the nursing process.

Anticipate patient needs and provide individualized assistance to patients, families and caregivers.

Organize multi-disciplinary and/or multi-centered care and facilitate effective communication with care providers.

Provide education for patients within their primary disease site; coordinate all education and training required for the care team.

Ensure excellent customer service and timely management of patient complaints; route patient questions/concerns to the proper department and address them promptly.

Serve as the point of contact for patients regarding their plan of care and for attending and consulting physicians.

Qualifications Required Education and Experience

License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with one year (full-time) oncology nursing experience or critical care experience; or

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with one year (full-time) medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting and completion of Roswell Park Nursing orientation with ability to function independently for three months as a Nurse I; or

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with three years (full-time) medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting.

Note

Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; minimum of 3 years of oncology experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting; prior leadership experience as a Charge Nurse or Team Leader.
