Position Summary Under the direction of the Data Quality Control Director, the Quality Control Specialist II will support the Data Quality Control Unit by abstracting and coding data, resolving questions from staff and registrars, and conducting audits and reviews. The role involves high-volume data entry, collaboration with the California Cancer Registry, and preparation for state and federal data submissions.

Key Responsibilities

Review and resolve CRGC Potential Duplicate cases monthly.

Serve as the CRGC administrator for the CCR Inquiry System and address abstracting/coding questions.

Coordinate and monitor response to questions from staff and hospital registrars.

Conduct data reviews for SEER Data Quality Profile indicators and for CCR or CRGC initiatives.

Perform audits, including case‑finding and reabstracting, and participate in CCR recoding audits.

Maintain best‑practice documents for registrar staff and collaborate with the Education & Training point of contact.

Work with the Data Analyst to resolve SEER edits and ensure timely completion.

Attend monthly CRGC Data Quality Meetings and bi‑monthly SEER Quality Improvement meetings.

Attend monthly production calls with central registry and California SEER registries.

Collaborate with Data Collection and Research Unit staff as needed.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

5 years of experience in cancer registry functions, including abstracting, coding, and quality control.

Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare‑related field or equivalent experience.

Credentialed as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) by the National Cancer Registrars Association.

Additional Qualifications

Excellent knowledge of cancer identification, coding, and abstracting procedures (SEER, NPCR, California Cancer Registry).

Strong analytical skills and ability to explain logic and rules.

Proficiency in computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software).

Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.

Must pass required background checks.

Compensation Full‑time, Sacramento, CA. Full salary range: $84,177 to $124,412 per year. The starting salary is determined by candidate experience, internal equity, and budget availability. Some remote work may be allowed, and core business hours for the Pacific time zone are expected. Some travel may be required.
