Overview
Assistant Director, Strategic Public Affairs. This position manages internal corporate communications, governmental/public affairs, and stakeholder relationships for a wide variety of capital projects and initiatives. The role creates and executes public affairs communication programs for MTA Construction & Development (C&D), including corporate brand building, media relations, and digital communications such as the This Week In Construction newsletter. The Assistant Director collaborates with C&D Business Unit Leaders, Project Teams, senior leadership at MTA HQ, and external partners to ensure consistent, strategic communications and alignment with leadership feedback and style-guidance standards. Responsibilities
Lead communication strategy in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President, Strategic Public Affairs Officer, Office of the President, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief of Staff, and C&D Executive Management. Develop and execute integrated corporate communications, messaging, and business development for C&D Capital Projects, including digital and non-digital campaigns, creative concepts, proposals, and marketing the capital program to industry partners and public/private organizations. Coordinate publication of the This Week In Construction newsletter: topic selection, photo coordination, copy drafting, and final editing with stakeholders across MTA C&D and MTA HQ. Foster collaboration with MTA HQ Communications Teams and MTA Press to ensure high-quality content for MTA Capital Projects. Collaborate with the Executive Management Team to provide strategic communications to build brand visibility and shape the communications strategy and digital platform for the capital program. Manage production of web-based and other digital communications; adapt, design, and create content to highlight the capital program and ensure real-time, positive messaging for internal and external Industry Partners. Coordinate messaging consistency with MTA HQ Communications Teams and MTA IT for intranet updates (text, links, photos, PDFs, page layouts). Facilitate relationships with industry press and social channels for events on behalf of MTA Construction and Development. Oversee video production design, branding, and marketing of capital projects from concept to execution, in collaboration with the Executive Team, Project Managers, and Business Units. Occasional after-hours work and travel to other MTA locations or external sites for community events, site tours, filming, and photography. Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Business Administration, Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum eight (8) years in communications, government, or government affairs. Minimum four (4) years in a leadership or managerial role in a large, multi-faceted organization or governmental body preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge and track record in managing corporate communications or public affairs for large, complex organizations; familiarity with the New York transit media environment is desirable. Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical information for lay audiences. High political acumen from experience in public administration, transportation, communications, and government/public environments. Ability to exercise judgment, manage shifting priorities, and deadlines; operate effectively in a high-profile, high-pressure environment. Ability to interface with external agencies (e.g., Governor’s Office, NYC government, officials, federal/state authorities) and collaborate with senior leadership, MTA Press Office, Communications, Agencies, and MTA Board. Strong managerial skills to direct staff toward short- and long-term goals; detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and planning abilities. Self-starter who identifies needs, strategies, and resources. Proficient in Microsoft Office; graphic design skills are a plus. Other Information
