Job Description L3Harris Technologies, a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader, provides propulsion and energetics to space, missile defense, strategic, tactical missile, and armaments customers globally. Our site near Culpeper, VA, in Orange County, is a center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetics development, as well as high-complexity production programs.
We are seeking a
Lead Safety Engineer
to join our growing facility in Culpeper, Virginia.
Essential Functions
Work performed under limited supervision.
Must be experienced in OSHA 1910 General Industry standards.
Perform hazard analysis and risk assessments.
Assist in accident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
Conduct routine audits and inspections to identify and eliminate non-compliance issues.
Manage projects related to energetics and safety, including incident investigations, risk management, and process hazard analysis.
Conduct training and communication campaigns to raise site-wide safety awareness.
Serve as interface and liaison with employees, managers, customers, auditors, and regulators.
Some travel required
Able to obtain a US security clearance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 9 years of Safety Engineering experience. Graduate Degree with at least 7 years of experience. Without a degree, a minimum of 13 years of Safety Engineering experience is required.
Preferred Additional Skills
Master’s degree preferred.
5+ years’ experience in Aerospace manufacturing.
5+ years’ experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and experience in OSHA 29 CFR 1926 is desired.
Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, OSHA PSM, NFPA, NEC, ANSI, and related regulations.
Experience in project management.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to read facility schematics and building plans.
Knowledge of DoD 4145.26M is a plus.
Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Process Safety Management (PSM).
Familiarity with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and ArcMap.
Knowledge of munitions, explosives, energetic materials, and safety protocols.
Strong communication skills and escalation awareness.
Training in Confined Spaces, Fall Protection, Lock Out Tag Out, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety NFPA 70E, and Energetics & Pyrotechnics is preferred.
