Eaton’s CPS business in Raleigh is seeking a Firmware Engineering Manager to join the team. The firmware engineering manager would be part of the new product introduction team based in Raleigh, serving datacenter, energy storage, and DC charger customers. This position will work closely with other functional engineering managers, engineering team members, program managers, and product managers to successfully execute and deliver projects, programs, and objectives. You will provide leadership to achieve functional excellence, encourage collaboration, develop employees, and drive accountability. The expected annual salary range for this role is $115,499 - $169,399. Salary information is a general guideline and may vary based on candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. What You’ll Do
Coach and lead a team of engineers across firmware, RTL and digital controls in the US responsible for new product development in medium voltage power electronics used in datacenter and DC charging industries. Collaborate effectively with external and internal customers (Marketing, Service, Operations, and other engineering teams) throughout the product development lifecycle. Encourage innovation and ensure the team pursues modern techniques and technologies. Promote professional growth through performance feedback, coaching and mentoring. Foster an environment that supports effective working relationships within the team and with other functional groups globally. Promote sharing of best practices and collaboration across the business. Provide accurate work estimates and develop and execute agile work plans for iterative and incremental project delivery. Evaluate business requirements to determine potential solutions. Lead process improvement initiatives to improve department effectiveness. Support Eaton’s strategic initiatives, goals and values. Recruit and hire permanent resources to maintain a healthy talent pipeline. Manage department budgets and expenses. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 7 years of experience in real-time embedded firmware development. Minimum 2 years of experience leading engineering teams (technical lead or functional manager). Minimum 1 year with Agile development methodologies and concepts. Ability to travel to different plants in Raleigh and Youngsville. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Computer Science (preferred). 5+ years’ experience using Embedded C/C++ for power electronics products. Experience with RTL design (Verilog preferred). Solid understanding of power electronics-based converters. Experience with Matlab/Simulink/Plecs/System composer. Experience with multicore DSP and FPGA. Strong understanding of automated testing and tools; firmware requirements development and analysis. Knowledge of UPS, Energy Storage, DC chargers, medium voltage drives/converters. Hands-on experience with control and embedded FW validation with HIL (OPAL RT, Typhoon). Experience working with Linux-based embedded systems. Ability to work effectively in an Agile Scrum environment. Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and familiarity with unit test frameworks. Experience using SDLC management tools in a team environment (e.g., Jira, Git). Skills Ability to travel up to 10%. Effective leadership and communication within a global team. Engage with embedded software teams to promote reuse and knowledge sharing. Strong problem solving and software debugging skills. Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to explain technical concepts clearly. Awareness of current software development tools, trends, and methodologies. Good judgment, time management, and decision-making skills. Ability to apply automation to tasks and operate with minimal supervision.
