GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. WYDOT seeks a full-time Engineer II based in Newcastle, Wyoming. This role involves tasks related to highway projects from inception through design, construction, and contract completion under the supervision of the Resident Engineer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following are illustrative and not exhaustive:

Issue, review, comment on, and revise plan sets. Review and approve or reject project submittals/permits. Update forms and documentation related to construction activities and pay quantities. Inspect projects to ensure completion according to plans, specifications, and budget. Compile and submit engineering recommendations and summaries for project designs. Research existing and emerging technologies. Provide technical guidance and oversight. Manage projects in direct contact with contractors and subcontractors. Interact with landowners, the public, and government agencies. Perform field inspections, laboratory testing, and quality control. Develop engineering models, conduct studies, estimate costs, and prepare reports. Review and evaluate work of engineering technicians. Ensure construction adheres to plans and specifications through inspections and testing. Assist contractors by interpreting plans and providing necessary information. Calculate and document quantities for payment. Verify data and calculations using geometric or trigonometric methods. Resolve geometric and trigonometric problems in engineering drawings. Review construction plans for compliance. Conduct field surveys using various tools and techniques. Verify and correct detailed drawings. Design preliminary work involving land areas, earth forms, and material quantities. Train personnel in engineering and surveying techniques. Coordinate with contractors, agencies, and the public. Oversee construction projects, manage pay quantities, and ensure quality control. Ensure proper sampling and testing of materials. Prepare agreements related to water, materials, and other needs. PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain certifications/licenses including valid Driver's License, QC/QA Certifications in Soils & Aggregate, Asphalt, Concrete, and WYDOT Portland Cement Concrete. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of engineering reference materials, surveying instruments, construction methods, project scheduling, cost estimation, and material takeoffs. Proficiency with Microstation, Geopak, and common computer applications. Ability to interpret plans and specifications, perform calculations, and communicate effectively. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. 0-3 years of engineering experience, with knowledge at the level of Engineer I. Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) required. PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to sit/stand for long periods, operate equipment outdoors, and work in adverse weather. Work around heavy machinery, hazardous waste, and high-speed traffic. Lift up to 50 pounds, and perform bending, stooping, and long-standing tasks. NOTES: FLSA: Non-Exempt Motor vehicle record checks required. Occasional overnight travel.
