Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Stationary Engineer for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois. The Stationary Engineer will receive day-to-day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer, perform installation, maintenance, preventive maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, and repairs of various mechanical systems and auxiliary and powerhouse equipment, make rounds of the building’s boiler and mechanical rooms, test and record water usage for consumption or steam generation, and assist other facilities in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
Essential Functions
Receives day-to-day guidance from the Chief Stationary Engineer.
Makes rounds of the building’s boiler and mechanical rooms at regular intervals.
Tests and records water used for consumption or for generating steam and hot water, chilled water systems.
Confers with tenant agencies to resolve problems related to building services.
Assists other facilities in the installation, maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning of systems and equipment.
Completes all mandatory trainings for compliance for Chester Mental Health Center.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years elementary school.
Requires four (4) years of experience in power plant operation and in firing high pressure and/or low-pressure stationary boilers.
Preferred Qualifications
Four (4) years of specialized experience in the operation of high pressure/low pressure coal, gas or oil-fired boilers and their apparatuses.
Three (3) years of specialized experience in water treatment and various chemicals used in boiler systems.
Three (3) years of specialized experience diagnosing problems in mechanical, electrical, heating and air conditioning/HVAC systems.
Three (3) years of professional experience directing the work of employees and outside contractors engaged in the operation and maintenance of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
Three (3) years of experience taking utility readings, logging records, ensuring maintenance schedules are followed, reviewing and actioning maintenance reports for technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
Three (3) years of experience diagnosing building and mechanical issues, recognizing potentially dangerous situations, and implementing appropriate emergency responses.
Three (3) years of specialized experience in public health Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and building codes of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
Three (3) years of experience following and expressing complex ideas clearly both orally and in written form in the field of technical stationary engineering power plant building systems.
Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid certificate as a Universal Technician under U.S.E.P.A. Section 608 Rules* or the ability to obtain such certificate within 6 months of employment.
Requires the ability to perform various tasks such as lifting and moving equipment/machinery up to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Requires the ability to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Requires an appropriate valid driver’s license.
Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
Requires the ability to utilize agency supplied materials/equipment (e.g., pager, cell phone etc.).
Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
Work Hours 8:00am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday; 30-minute paid lunch
