Overview
Stationary Engineer (40 Hour | Office/On-site) – 27233 Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH), under the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), is seeking a Stationary Engineer to operate and maintain the CVH Power Plant. Responsibilities
Operate, monitor, and maintain boilers, generating equipment, and related mechanical systems in a power plant environment. Inspect gauges, indicators, charts, and records; issue instructions to subordinates as needed. Perform regular tests and adjustments of facilities and equipment; maintain and repair mechanical equipment (boilers, pumps, fans, compressors, electronic equipment, etc.). Perform boiler water analyses, determine treatment needs, and record operating data. Conduct minor tests for fuel specific gravity and gas leaks; add water treatment chemicals to boilers. Assist in general building maintenance and repair; inspect and repair steam traps; handle pipe insulation removal as required with OSHA-compliant methods. Supervise and/or perform maintenance and repair of boiler room equipment, supervise boiler operation, and ensure equipment integrity and safety. Adhere to shift and weekend differential requirements and complete duties in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of operating, maintaining, and repairing boilers, generators, and related mechanical equipment. Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to utilize computer software. Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of steam boilers or significant auxiliary boiler room or power plant equipment. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with high, medium and low-pressure steam (15-50 PSI). Experience in a large power plant with 3–600 HP boilers. Experience testing and operating a 1200 kW generator. Experience with composite voltage switchgear (460 Volt). Experience working with Joint Commission recording requirements; experience using computers. Special Requirements
Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications as determined by the appointing authority. Physical Requirements
Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual/auditory acuity; physical fitness to perform duties. A physical examination may be required. Working Conditions
Exposure to dust, noise, heat; risk of injury from equipment. May require completion of an asbestos removal program; use of protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles. Equal Opportunity
