Job Overview WIN Waste Innovations is looking for a Relief Operator to monitor and control boilers, turbine, and auxiliary plant equipment from all areas of the facility to maintain safe, efficient and continuous plant operation.

Responsibilities

Maintain safe and efficient boiler operation including productive combustion, maximize generation, manage in-plant power consumption, and operate facility within all applicable permits.

Monitor plant operational and emissions data; detect and respond to changing conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety and efficiency.

Coordinate and direct all subordinates as required.

Oversee the operation of plant equipment for local monitoring of safe operation; work with maintenance to troubleshoot problems and ascertain probable cause.

Read meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions; record data such as temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumed, pressure, water levels, flue gas analysis, voltage load, and generator balance.

Adjust manual controls or override automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or shut down equipment; visually inspect equipment periodically to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.

Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components.

May be required to oil and lubricate equipment.

Record operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator logbook.

Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards, and report them to the Shift Supervisor immediately; read, understand, and apply information such as lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Work rotating shifts as required.

Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicate clearly whether using in‑situ intercom system, two‑way radio or face to face.

Anticipate typical problems, identify potential or recurring problems, and take appropriate action; troubleshoot equipment and assist in diagnosing problem areas.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, vendors, co‑workers and management.

Education and Experience

2nd Class Engineers license required for all Massachusetts facilities.

High school diploma or GED or equivalent.

Two years working in a power plant environment; or five years related experience or training in a power plant environment.

Mechanical skills sufficient to perform tasks such as replacement of shear pins, valve repacking, and equipment inspections.

Skills, experience, and knowledge sufficient to acquire ASME QRO provisional license.

Math skills sufficient to complete required job functions.

Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant.

Operate a 1.5‑inch fire hose operating at 125 psi line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire

Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units

Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12” by 16” manways
