Nexamp
Overview
Join Nexamp as a SCADA Engineer. As America’s #1 community solar provider, you’ll play a key role in supporting 24/7 real-time operations for a rapidly expanding fleet of distributed and utility-scale renewable energy assets. This role is hybrid in Lawrence, MA, and reports to the Director, Operational Technologies.
What we’re looking for Join the team shaping the future of clean energy. The SCADA Engineer will help deploy, maintain, and support SCADA functions across Nexamp’s solar PV and battery energy storage sites, including integrating field assets into the SCADA network, troubleshooting telemetry and communication systems, and supporting Nexamp’s 24/7 Operations Center (NOC) with real-time issue resolution.
The ideal candidate has experience from the electric utility sector, with a solid background in configuring and supporting SCADA-connected field devices (e.g., RTACs, reclosers, meters). Proficiency in industrial environments is preferred.
We are accepting candidates for our Lawrence, MA office location, where you will be hybrid. You will report to the Director, Operational Technologies.
What you’ll do
Serve as a key technical resource for Nexamp’s 24/7 Operations Center (NOC), addressing telemetry, communication, alarming and field equipment issues.
Maintain SCADA databases and graphical displays, ensuring accuracy, usability, and alignment with real-time field operations.
Assist with commissioning and integration of new PV and BESS assets into the SCADA network, including communication setup, protocol configuration (Modbus, DNP3), and I/O mapping.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to network communication, telemetry, and control systems across field and centralized infrastructure.
Provide hands-on support for Operational Technology equipment located in data centers — RTACs, routers and network switches used for SCADA and telemetry.
Maintain comprehensive documentation including technical specifications, network diagrams, and system configuration records.
Participate in an on‑call rotation for after‑hours SCADA/OT support as needed.
Support data acquisition, analysis, and reporting, contributing to system monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization efforts.
Support the deployment, configuration, programming and maintenance of AVEVA and Ignition SCADA systems across Nexamp’s renewable energy portfolio, including PV and BESS sites.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure reliable telemetry, data integrity, and remote control of field assets.
What you’ll bring
High School diploma or GED equivalence.
2–5 years of hands-on experience working with SCADA systems in energy, utilities, or industrial automation sectors.
Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as Ignition and AVEVA System Platforms.
Experience in managing SCADA databases containing electrical components, such as maintaining SCADA point lists and parameters, control mappings, etc.
Skilled in configuring and troubleshooting SEL RTACs, reclosers, meters, and industrial control devices.
Good understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC/UA, and IEC 61850.
Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, including troubleshooting within OT/ICS environments.
Expertise in commissioning and resolving site technical issues, with proven ability to independently troubleshoot challenging SCADA-related issues.
Proficient with operational and analytical software tools, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and database platforms such as Microsoft Access or similar.
Detail-oriented and disciplined, with a methodical approach to work execution and documentation.
Adaptable to change, able to lead through operational growth and evolving procedures.
Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, real-time operations environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Availability to work outside regular hours, including participation in an on-call rotation as required.
Commitment to Nexamp’s mission and a passion for solving tomorrow’s climate crisis today.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people inside and beyond your organization.
Experience demonstrating initiative to improve current work, processes, products, and services; accountability and ownership mindset are valued.
Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify root causes, and present creative solutions.
Ability to build strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
Eagerness to understand how Nexamp operates and apply that knowledge to inform business decisions.
