Import Brokerage Manager — Freight Forwarding / International Logistics
Overview
The Import Brokerage Manager oversees all import customs brokerage activities across air and ocean freight, ensuring full regulatory compliance, operational precision, and client satisfaction. This role manages the complete A–Z import process including classification, valuation, entry submission, post-entry audit, and coordination with U.S. Customs, Partner Government Agencies, and internal operations. The position requires a proven leader who can manage a high-volume entry department while maintaining strict adherence to CBP, PGA, and corporate compliance standards. Key Responsibilities
Supervise daily import brokerage operations including entry filing, ISF, post-entry, reconciliation, and drawback. Manage and develop Licensed Customs Brokers, Entry Writers, and Import Analysts to ensure compliance accuracy and operational consistency. Oversee customs clearance timelines, PGA documentation, and coordination with terminals, airlines, and truckers. Review and validate HTS classifications, duty assessments, valuation methods, and recordkeeping in compliance with 19 CFR and related regulations. Serve as primary liaison with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, FDA, USDA, EPA, and other agencies. Maintain the company’s Power of Attorney and continuous bonds, ensuring data integrity in ACE and ABI systems. Lead audits and corrective actions for compliance discrepancies, including Reasonable Care assessments and Focused Assessment readiness. Collaborate with account management, finance, and operations to ensure billing accuracy, margin protection, and client performance reporting. Evaluate and enhance departmental SOPs, KPI targets, and risk management controls. Support sales and client onboarding through tariff consultations, landed cost analysis, and compliance briefings. Required Experience
Minimum 7–10 years of U.S. import customs brokerage experience with a licensed freight forwarder or customs broker. Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity overseeing entry operations. Demonstrated expertise across both air and ocean imports, including ISF, remote location filing (RLF), reconciliation, and PGA clearances. Proven success managing brokerage teams in a high-volume, multi-client environment. Experience handling post-entry corrections, protests, and binding ruling requests. Familiarity with major ERP and brokerage systems (e.g., CargoWise, Descartes, Magaya, or similar). Knowledge & Skills
Deep understanding of CBP regulations, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS), and valuation principles under 19 U.S.C. Strong leadership and decision-making skills with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and performance. Proficiency in MS Office and ACE/ABI reporting systems. Excellent communication skills for client and government correspondence. Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) certification preferred. Compliance & Systems
Full working knowledge of U.S. import regulations, PGA requirements, C-TPAT, and FMC compliance standards. Responsible for audit readiness, data retention, and recordkeeping under CBP 19 CFR 163. Base pay range: $100,000.00/yr - $125,000.00/yr Competitive salary based on experience. Reports to: Regional Director of Operations or Branch Manager. Eligible for performance-based incentives and professional development programs.
