plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective movement, storage, and protection of goods throughout the supply chain. Below is an overview of their typical roles, responsibilities, and scope of work in a manufacturing supply chain operation.

Responsibilities

Container Management

Manage US Container Planning Team – setting goals and measure team performance.

Establish standard systems and processes

Manage returnable packaging issues at all suppliers and US plants

Maintain data in all systems - PeopleSoft, BAAN & LN (MRP systems)

Setup shipments of excess, short racks/containers from all suppliers and plants

Analyze loops / safety days and recommend purchases, disposals

Excess returnable and obsolete returnable management

Boarder crossing assistance if needed

Change impacts and redirecting Container Asset Management

Container Asset Management

Add new assets purchased each month to Peoplesoft

Maintain returnable scrap tracker

Review net book value of racks proposing to scrap

Fill out request to dispose forms

Remove assets scrap each month for Peoplesoft

Maintain supplier contacts and supplier return location file

Support Cycle counts for inventory accuracy

Repair and Maintenance US

Maintain International owned racks and containers at supplier and plants

Maintain returnable repair budget planning/tracking for truck and bus plants

Train/maintain damage rack tagging process at plants and suppliers

Purchase Order requisition/approve invoices

Address rack/container safety/ergo/quality issue

Oversee container cleaning programs

Manage/track/prioritize rack repairs at repair sources to reduce rack shortages

Work with team on design improvement process

Manage rack preventative maintenance programs

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work with procurement, suppliers, logistics, and production teams to align packaging requirements with supply chain objectives.

Collaborate with production engineers to ensure packaging supports manufacturing efficiency.

Coordinate with quality teams to test and validate packaging for compliance and durability.

Transportation/ Carrier interface

Sustainability Initiatives

Technical Documentation and Standards

Develop and maintain packaging specifications, standards

Document best practices for packaging and containerization

Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISTA, ISO 11607).

Problem-Solving and Continuous Improvement

Troubleshoot packaging and container-related issues in the supply chain.

Conduct root cause analyses to address product damage or inefficiencies.

Implement corrective actions and track improvements.

Cost Management

Analyze cost implications of packaging materials and container systems.

Negotiate with suppliers to reduce costs without compromising quality.

Monitor and optimize packaging expendable spending across the supply chain

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree

At least 5 years of materials management or supply chain experience

OR

Master's degree

At least 4 years of materials management or supply chain experience

OR

At least 8 years of materials management or supply chain experience

Additional Requirements

Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Strong knowledge of Logistics and Transportation processes preferred.
