Practice Innovation Lead

As a member of the KM and Innovation Department, the Practice Innovation Lead will anticipate, identify, and implement innovative legal technology solutions within the Firm. The Practice Innovation Lead will be responsible for tightly lacing an understanding of the practice of law with technology, knowledge management, business analysis, process improvement and project management. Ultimately, this role provides solutions that enhance the client experience.
Essential Functions
Monitor daily intake queue for the Practice Innovation and Legal Solutions Team (PILS) requests, ensuring timely response and resolution.
Ensure project plans, task lists, and documentation are consistently updated and maintained on a daily and weekly basis (using Smartsheet or other designated tools).
Proactively identify issues or bottlenecks and elevate to Team Leadership when necessary.
Track usage, adoption, and performance metrics of solutions/sites to evaluate impact and guide improvements.
Actively participate in marketing innovation services by attending department and practice group meetings.
Operational Excellence
Identify attorney pain points through technology and process improvements.
Develop and maintain model documents, templates, checklists for practice innovation solutions.
Collaborate to develop training materials and support onboarding efforts to promote adoption.
Promote awareness and adoption of legal innovation tools and practices.
Solution Development & Implementation
Gather and prioritize solution requirements from attorneys and/or clients.
Document requirements and build/refine practice innovation solutions.
Design and build solutions using KM platforms (e.g., SharePoint Online, PowerApps, document automation tools).
Provide ongoing support for deployed solutions and serve as a troubleshooting resource.
Deliver planned, ad‑hoc, and just‑in‑time training on KM tools.
Innovation Tools & Solution Analysis
Monitor legal tech trends and advise leadership on emerging tools and best practices.
Conduct gap analyses and draft business cases for new technologies.
Research and analyze innovation tools under consideration for purchase.
Provide criteria to analyze KM and innovation tools and make recommendations.
Project Management & Reporting
Support multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high‑quality outcomes.
Prepare reports and presentations for KM leadership.
Professional & Client-Facing Responsibilities
Display the highest level of professionalism and customer service/support.
Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, accessible manner to legal professionals and clients.
Represent the Practice Innovation & Legal Solutions team in meetings and presentations.
Additional Functions
Participate in special projects as assigned.
Substitute for other staff members as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree, required. Practicing J.D., Master’s or equivalent legal industry experience strongly preferred.
Experience
4–8 years in the legal industry.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of KM, process improvement, legal project management.
Strong business analysis skills and systematic thinking.
Passion for legal technology and impact on the practice of law.
Understanding of user interface and user experience design.
Familiarity with multiple areas of law – both jurisdictional and topical.
Skills & Abilities
General: initiative, judgment, manage deadlines, work cooperatively, quality, accountability, confidentiality, understanding of KM Teams.
Analysis/Technical: excellent problem solving, analytical skills, communicate complex concepts, advanced KM tool knowledge.
Communication: outstanding oral and written communication, liaise with non‑technical users, high customer service, team orientation, concise summarization.

Ability to service multiple locations and time zones.
Strong working knowledge of the services, goals and initiatives of the Department.
Act as an ambassador of the Department during regular interaction.
Basic working knowledge of available resources and tools, including intranet.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. Standard office equipment: computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.
Sedentary work: lift, carry, push, pull objects up to 10 pounds. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing often necessary.
Visual acuity: close visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer terminal, extensive reading.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position applies to Atlantic City, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Morristown, Princeton, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $100,000 to $120,000.
