Role overview: This exempt position provides direct support and leads in executing a wide variety of business development efforts and initiatives including pitch books, presentations, proposals, research, content administration, marketing communications, events and practice group coordination. The Senior Specialist has primary responsibility for multiple initiatives from strategic identification through tactical execution and implementation. The Senior Specialist reports directly to the Chief Marketing Officer with a dotted line to the relevant Business Development Manager.
Responsibilities
Pitch Books, Presentations and Proposals: create, tailor, produce pitch books, presentations and proposals; track information in pitch book and proposal databases; capture revisions to resumes, practice descriptions and experience records; identify and recommend content to cull or add to databases; support firm-wide use of proposal tools and knowledge management for pitches, proposals and cross-promotional opportunities. Research: identify needs for company, client, industry, competitor trends; work with section leadership and the Competitive Intelligence Group on research projects; help identify and evaluate new business opportunities and targets; support cross-selling initiatives and client-specific target teams; assist with deal/case tracking. Content Administration: update practice group overviews, deal/case charts, client lists, and materials; coordinate updates to lawyer bios with the website team; collect and submit attorney experience data meeting firm style standards; delegate submissions to BD team members as needed. Marketing Communications: distribute collected experience through channels (website, press releases, social media, directory submissions); prepare internal newsletters; assist with external client communications; proofread marketing pieces; lead creation of new marketing pieces and campaigns for new content. Events: coordinate and lead BD events, sponsorships, advertisements, speaking engagements; work with Event Specialists on logistics, invitations, materials, follow-up; manage event strategy, subject matter, planning and follow-up; update CRM to track post-event follow-up and ROI; negotiate event sponsorships under supervision. Practice Group Coordination: work with the BD Manager and section chairs on annual business planning, strategy and execution of BD/marketing plans; identify opportunities to support new specialty practice areas or industry groups; coordinate BD meetings and prepare materials; review accounting reports and assist with budget coordination and onboarding of new attorneys. Training and Leadership: provide periodic direction and training to BD Specialists, Coordinators and Assistants under supervision on projects such as proposals, events, and bios. Other duties: perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Knowledge/Experience:
At least 5 years of work experience in professional services, marketing/business development or corporate communications is preferred. Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with middle market corporations and/or private equity is desired. MBA or advanced degree preferred. Skills:
Excellent communication, writing, proofreading and editing skills; strong attention to detail; client service orientation; ability to learn new software (e.g., InterAction) and various BI tools; ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines; professional diplomacy under stress; strong teamwork and ownership of tasks. Education:
Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree a plus. Physical Demands:
Ability to move around the office up to 15% of the time; remain stationary most of the time; occasional high activity during events; ability to lift up to 15 lbs; constant computer use (about 80% of the time). Working Conditions:
