Overview

Radiologic Technologist - Up to $20,000 Sign On Bonus Under the general supervision of the Lead Technologist and following established procedures, performs a variety of technical radiologic procedures using standard, portable, and/or specialized x-ray equipment to apply prescribed ionizing radiation in order to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients’ illness and injuries. Assists patients in positioning for correct anatomical exposure, maintains order and cleanliness of the work area, and performs routine clerical tasks. Responsibilities

Transfer, position, and instruct patients regarding the procedure to obtain the desired radiographic diagnostic results; use immobilization devices as necessary.

Provide protection to non-target areas of the body from radiation exposure using lead shields in accordance with safety standards.

Calculate and select proper technical factors (voltage, current, exposure time, focal distance) based on patient size, condition, and suspected pathology.

Inspect equipment and accessories to ensure they are in proper operating condition.

Assist physicians in specialized examinations (e.g., intravenous venography) by preparing syringes and contrast media, positioning patients, and passing instruments and supplies.

Select and load proper film; operate x-ray equipment according to diagnostic procedures and established routines.

Review processed film to ensure quality and completeness for diagnostic purposes.

Utilize portable x-ray equipment in patient rooms, during surgery, or in other settings where transfer is impractical.

Ensure films, requisitions, and related records are properly completed for patient identification and billing.

Maintain a clean, well-supplied work environment and ensure examination rooms are stocked with equipment and materials.

Understand and practice ALARA principles of radiation protection, including dosimeter use.

May provide guidance to students or other unit personnel in methods, techniques, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and two years of formal training in an accredited School of Radiologic Technology.

Current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island.

Ability to operate all types of x-ray and related equipment; capable of pushing portable equipment and transferring/positioning patients.

Conceptual ability to determine means of providing radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality based on case specifics.

Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients under physical or emotional stress.

Knowledge and skills to provide care with consideration of aging processes, human development, and cultural patterns in each step of care.

Experience: Approximately 1–3 months of orientation and on-the-job training to become familiar with responsibilities.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Main Radiology Department or smaller satellite operation with typically low noise, dust, and temperature concerns.

Exposed to radiation with established safety procedures; low likelihood of illness or injury when procedures are followed.

Continuous standing, walking, pushing portable equipment, lifting and positioning patients.

Exposure to odors from waste and chemicals from film processing.

Pay Range $33.02-$53.93
