Overview
The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a Behavioral Health Therapist to support the Co-Responder program. The role involves crisis intervention and stabilization services in response to 911 behavioral health crises throughout Loudoun County, including individuals’ homes, and follow-up after 911 calls.
Responsibilities
Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services using expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Participate in Co-Responder team activities, including driving in law enforcement vehicles and responding to 911 calls for behavioral health crises, with outreach to individuals and families after 911 calls (with or without law enforcement).
Work in crisis situations that require making decisions involving people, resources, and property.
With a focus on the least restrictive behavioral health treatment options, evaluate individuals experiencing behavioral health and developmental disability crises and link them and their families to treatment and community resources, which may include the civil commitment process.
Regular work environment includes riding in law enforcement vehicles, being inside and outside, and traveling to multiple locations throughout the County, including individuals’ homes, clinics, and offices.
Regular workday schedule may extend beyond the usual hours; the program will expand to 24/7 operations.
Must be fitted for ballistic vest and N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed.
Must be available to report to work during inclement weather, disasters, and emergencies.
Qualifications
Master’s degree; license eligible within one year of hire or possess professional licensure through the Virginia Board as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP); and two years of professional experience working with individuals who have mental health and/or substance use diagnoses (which may include internship experience).
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background checks to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV, and TB test; must have a good driving record and a valid driver’s license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County’s Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.
