CommonSpirit Health Job Summary and Responsibilities As our surgical services nurse at St. John’s, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in the operating room to ensure they receive excellent nursing care during procedures. Daily tasks include reviewing consent forms, answering questions about the procedure, performing preoperative assessments, ensuring equipment is ready, and updating family members on surgery status during the operation. You will be expected to directly assist the surgeon during the actual surgery. To be successful, you must maintain focus while multitasking, stay calm under pressure, and exercise good judgment in emergency situations. In keeping with the Dignity Health core values, the Clinical Nurse III (CN III) in Surgical Services is an RN with advanced skills who is an expert in surgical nursing care and is capable of directing/coaching other Surgical Services staff in daily unit operations. The CN III facilitates smooth nursing unit operation, acts as a mentor/preceptor/resource for Clinical Nurse I and II and other staff, and provides advanced consultation to other units and hospital staff regarding complex surgical patient care problems. *This position is represented by SEIU, Local 121RN, and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.* WORDS: RN, REGISTERED NURSE, ACLS, BSN *Job Requirements* Minimum Requirements Current California RN license (RN) Current CPR certification (CT CPRBLS) Current ACLS certification (CT ACLS) Current PALS certification (CT PALS) Three (3) to five (5) years circulating experience in perioperative settings across multiple service-lines Special Skills Demonstrates ability to work within a decentralized model of patient care delivery Demonstrates proficient advanced nursing skills and specialty skills Demonstrates a caring, compassionate attitude toward others Ability to model the leadership role for the patient care team Demonstrates skills in delegating patient care tasks to other team members Extensive knowledge of CQI techniques and the ability to apply these techniques in patient care Ability to chair and participate in unit leadership teams, task forces or committees Organizes and prioritizes work efficiently Clear and effective written and oral English language skills and active listening Knowledge of Change Theory and ability to identify and apply these principles Act as a role model and resource for all patient care team members Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others across all departments Where You’ll Work CommonSpirit Health was formed by the alignment of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health.
