Responsibilities

Direct the total nursing care activities in the facility during each shift under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services to ensure the highest quality resident care. Meet the nursing and rehabilitation needs of each resident; participate in developing, updating, and communicating residents’ care plans. Ensure staff implement care plans, perform care activities correctly, recognize changes in resident status, and maintain current resident care plans. Follow physician’s orders; render or assist with complete nursing care, treatments, dressings, and other physician orders; transcribe orders promptly and accurately. Review patient records daily for accuracy and completeness; document comprehensive nursing notes; maintain awareness of residents on alert and document RN assessments as needed. Document and report unusual or significant findings; contact physicians when necessary; administer medications according to procedure if applicable; initiate emergency procedures as necessary. Oversee the performance of the Charge Nurse and CNAs; contribute to positive resident and family relations. Other duties as assigned by the manager. Qualifications

Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as an LPN or RN in the state. Must be CPR certified. Minimum of one year experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or related health care facility (preferred). Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English; accurate and comprehensive assessment skills. Knowledge of restorative nursing and rehabilitation policies; ability to make independent decisions; tact in dealing with personnel, residents, families, visitors, and regulatory agencies. Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, long-term care laws, regulations, and guidelines; leadership and supervisory ability; ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs and policies necessary for quality care. Ability to relate information about a resident’s condition and communicate effectively with appropriate personnel during emergencies; patient-focused, with patience and enthusiasm.
