Salary Range:

$156,830 - 196,000 Annually Position Summary: The Chief Naval Architect is responsible for defining contract requirements for ship design, build, conversion, and repair projects at our 63-acre facility. The candidate will support over 1,000 workers by determining department resources, coordinating personnel to meet commitments, and taking on leadership roles as needed, including bid and proposal development. Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities: Adhere to and promote the Safety Policy, and enforce all organizational policies and procedures. Determine resource needs to support business goals and maintain departmental capabilities aligned with engineering efforts. Develop and maintain training programs and standardized processes for the engineering team. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and mentor direct reports. Manage recruitment and terminations. Lead meetings with Engineering, other departments, and external stakeholders to align efforts with business objectives. Report departmental performance to the Senior Management. Coordinate with all departments to ensure engineering deliverables meet production needs. Oversee department budgets and participate in bid and proposal development. Manage and integrate technical activities in engineering projects, including reviewing and approving design changes. Present proposals and reports to customers, and negotiate project specifications. Engage actively in waterfront activities. Uphold and promote Quality, Environmental, and Health & Safety policies. Supervisory Responsibility: The position directly manages up to 10 subordinates. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to proactively plan, communicate, and track progress towards goals and milestones. Familiarity with DoD 5000.1 and 5000.2. Deep understanding of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Rules and Guides. Effective presentation and communication skills with managers, clients, and employees. Critical thinking skills for scheduling, problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and quality measurement. Computer proficiency in MS Office, MS Excel, MS Project, and Primavera P6. Education and Experience: Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related technical field from an accredited college. Minimum of seven (7) years' experience in Project Management, Systems Engineering, and/or Program Scheduling. Ability to obtain Secret Clearance preferred. Physical Demands: May be required to be in production areas; must be able to walk to and from job sites. Local travel up to 10%, out-of-town travel including air travel up to 5%, with notice. Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. PMP certification preferred. Six Sigma / LEAN certification preferred. Work Environment: Onsite work required 5 days per week. Citizenship: US citizenship required due to government contract. Vigor is a drug, smoke, and vape-free workplace.
