Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities Individual will be responsible for developing accurate powerflow, short circuit, and economic models of Evergy's transmission system and conducting economic analysis to support both transmission and generation planning activities. Candidate will be developing processes and/or procedures necessary to address congestion analysis, assess the effectiveness of various transmission and non-wires solutions, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (including Southwest Power Pool).

Model powerflow and short-circuit data in PSS/E software

Validate data inputs to analyze and assess the transmission system for congestion to ensure operational reliability, adequacy, efficiency, and the long-term needs of transmission projects

Develop an understanding of energy market, underlying transmission system and generation fleet and its response under contingent conditions

Perform production cost modeling analysis to identify economic opportunities to be addressed through transmission and/or generation solutions

Write reports summarizing the study findings at the end of study cycles

Develop processes in support of efforts on economic modeling of the transmission and generation planning activities under guidance using PROMOD

Ability to make timely recommendations to effectively solve problems, using independent judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and/or law.

Improve analytical processes by identifying and automating activities

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

Specialization in Power systems and/or advanced graduate degree (MS) preferred. Other degrees also considered with suitable energy market experience.

At least two+ year(s) of experience preferred in transmission planning

Practical experience of steady state and knowledge of PSSE, Powerworld, Encompass, PROMOD, PAT or similar is desirable

Knowledge of nodal market analysis, LMP, transmission congestion and power market operations

Technical Capabilities

Understanding NERC, FERC Compliance Requirements

Databases: Production Costing software, PROMOD/Powerbase

Programming software (Necessary): Python, VBA, SQL

Understanding of power flow model building process and techniques such as PSS/E, PowerWorld

Load forecasting techniques and principle of economic dispatch.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required Be able to manage voluminous amounts of data with ability to visualize data and identify pattern trends. Be able to do a decomposition of market prices and structures.
