Surgical Tech / SPD Per Diem (PRN) role at Surgery Partners, Inc. General Summary of Duties

Surgical Technologist with SPD experience or willingness to learn, needed for a fast-paced ASC. Must have minimum 1 year of experience. CPR required. Supervision received: Physician and/or Registered Nurse. Responsibilities

Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Before an operation, helps prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions. Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures. Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient\'s skin, body, and medical equipment. Assembles both sterile and non-sterile equipment, and checks it to ensure it is working properly. Gets patients ready for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites. Transports patients to the operating room, helps position them on the operating table, and covers them with sterile drapes. Observes patients\' vital signs, checks charts, and assists the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves. Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants. Holds retractors, cuts sutures, and helps count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Helps prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and helps apply dressings. Operates sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and helps operate diagnostic equipment. After an operation, helps transfer patients to the recovery room and cleans and restocks the operating room. Performs other duties as assigned. Education / Experience / Requirements

A graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program. CST preferred. Must be certified to perform CPR with 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field. Physical / Mental Demands

Ability to be on your feet for long periods and lift or turn disabled patients. Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Ability to concentrate for periods of up to several hours; ability to communicate verbally in person and on the telephone; ability to use a computer keyboard and view a monitor. Surgical technologists work in clean, well-lighted, cool environments and may be exposed to communicable diseases, unpleasant sights, odors, and materials. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center. Knowledge of growth and development principles; ability to assess data reflective of the patient\'s age-specific needs and provide the required care per center policies and procedures. Knowledge and skills in the nursing process; effective communication; and ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members. Environmental / Working Conditions
