Responsibilities
24-hour accountability for a unit area. The major responsibilities include providing leadership and communication, monitoring the work environment, assuring quality, managing the fiscal budget, managing human resources, and ensuring the delivery of competent clinical practice.
* This Manager will oversee Cardiac and Neuro units.
Job Responsibilities
Support and actualize the Division of Nursing philosophy and goals by assuming leadership in program development and implementation.
Develop staff to assume leadership roles both formally and informally through role modeling and facilitating staff participation in shared governance.
Facilitate development and implementation of solutions to problems.
Develop and implement effective communication channels to inform all staff, including monthly unit meetings with posted minutes and notices.
Direct and participate in the orientation of new employees; evaluate programs affecting employees; conduct unit council meetings monthly, incorporating new knowledge and skills to meet changing needs.
Maintain positive working relationships and problem-solving with other members of the care team, including physicians and other departments.
Participate in committees and task forces as needed; facilitate staff leadership roles.
Demonstrate positive leadership and communication skills that embrace change and achieve outcomes.
Encourage staff participation in clinical decision-making affecting practice.
Promote a caring, helpful environment, including physical setting arrangements and equipment setup conducive to effective nursing care.
Participate in CQI/CQE programs, document results, report timely, and develop corrective action plans.
Meet standards of care, quality control targets, and operationalize CQI.
Develop multidisciplinary programs to monitor quality patient care indicators.
Maintain fiscal budgets within variance, focusing on HPPD, labor costs, overtime, orientation, SSP, and supplies.
Adjust staffing based on unit activity and patient acuity; review fiscal worksheets and implement action plans.
Manage the unit budget to control operational and capital expenditures based on patient needs and budget policies.
Implement shared leadership with structured recruitment, retention, and PEP/professional practice.
Facilitate professional growth, identify training needs, and develop educational programs using CQI/CQE input.
Ensure accountability in resource management, monitor variances, and correct as needed.
Follow personnel policies, conduct performance reviews, and ensure job standards are understood.
Participate in innovative programs impacting patient care, such as pilot studies or research.
Maintain clinical exposure through direct patient care, role modeling, consulting, and in-services.
Ensure delivery of competent, compassionate nursing care based on standards and patient/family feedback.
Qualifications Required Education and Experience: * Bachelor's Degree and RN licensure Starting January 2016, new hires should have: * Bachelor's Degree and at least 3 years of leadership experience; clinical leadership preferred OR * Master's Degree with no experience required Required License and Certification: RN license in TX BLS-CPR certification within 14 days of hire #LI-CHI
