Salary Range (Engineer Senior):

$78,968 – $116,197 annually (hourly $37.82 – $55.65)

Salary Range (Engineer 2 Graduate):

$62,473 – $92,102 annually (hourly $29.92 – $44.11)

Responsibilities

Provide overall project management direction from inception to completion of all MnDOT transportation projects in District 1.

Serve as primary project contact for other public agencies and the general public regarding project activities.

Lead technical project teams in the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques in the management of project activities for minor to moderate scale projects.

Manage consultants and ensure consistency with MnDOT strategy, commitments, and goals.

Ensure proper program execution and compliance with MnDOT, state, and federal procedures, practices, regulations, and standards.

Facilitate in-person public meetings in District 1 as required.

Work in the Duluth Headquarters Office or hybrid schedule as determined by policy and supervisor discussion.

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer Senior

Professional Civil Engineer license with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or a temporary permit through comity.

Valid Class D Driver’s License.

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, or equivalent rated by NCEES/EAC.

Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Two years of post‑graduation civil engineering work.

Valid Class D Driver’s License.

OR

Passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) exam.

Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution substitutes for one year of post‑graduate civil engineering work.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience planning, designing, and/or constructing highway projects.

Knowledge of project management techniques and tools.

Knowledge of project schedule development.

Knowledge of MnDOT policies, procedures, and state and federal rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements

Regularly sit, use wrists, hands, and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.

Occasionally stand; walk; stoop, kneel, or crouch.

Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Intermittently work outside exposed to weather elements (hot and cold).

Periodically walk on even and uneven/sloping ground; visit work zones with high volume traffic day and night.
