Shive-Hattery has an exciting opportunity for a Design Professional - Civil to join our Transportation and Municipal practice in the West Des Moines, IA office. We welcome applications from recent graduates and early-career professionals with up to three years of experience. As part of our Public Infrastructure - Transportation Team, you''ll gain hands-on experience in traffic engineering and municipal transportation projects, directly contributing to solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and mobility in the communities where we live and work. Your work will primarily focus on

traffic engineering , including traffic studies, signal design, corridor modeling, traffic operations analysis, and development of traffic control and detour plans. You''ll also contribute to broader transportation and infrastructure projects, supporting roadway design and multimodal transportation projects. You''ll play an active role in preparing CAD drawings, traffic models, technical reports, construction documents, and cost estimates. In addition, you''ll gain field experience through data collection, traffic counts, and construction observation, helping you connect planning and design with real-world performance and implementation. While your primary focus will be traffic engineering, our broad practice areas create opportunities to contribute to transportation and municipal projects across markets including industrial, healthcare, K-12 education, commercial, and government sectors. Prepare CAD drawings, traffic models, technical reports, construction documents, and cost estimates. Engage in data collection, traffic counts, and construction observation to connect planning and design with field performance. Contribute to traffic studies, signal design, corridor modeling, traffic operations analysis, and development of traffic control and detour plans. Support broader transportation and municipal projects, including roadway design and multimodal initiatives. Requirements

Education: Graduated from an accredited engineering school. Experience: New graduate or early-career Civil Engineer with 0-3 years of professional experience. License/Certification: Have passed or are scheduled to take Fundamentals of Engineering exam to obtain Engineering Intern designation by the State of Iowa. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is a plus. MicroStation 3D experience is a plus. Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and orally. Service oriented toward existing and potential clients. Works effectively with other engineers on multi-discipline teams. Ability to manage time and workload with attention to detail. Internships/summer experience in general civil engineering or construction is a plus. Preferred Qualifications

Strong interest in traffic engineering. Practical, hands-on experience in MicroStation/OpenRoads Design and AutoCAD Civil 3D; knowledge of traffic modeling software is a plus. Effective written and verbal communication and a commitment to client service. Previous internships or summer experiences in traffic or transportation civil engineering are advantageous.
