Overview Are you an experienced construction Safety Manager passionate about safety? Weeks Marine & Kiewit emphasizes the guiding principle, “Nobody Gets Hurt.” We are looking for a safety manager who creates, supports, and audits our safety program to reinforce our commitment to safety. This position is part of the Weeks Marine - Construction safety program and will be focused on project-level safety management.
Location and Travel This position will be based out of Cranford, NJ but will be assigned to projects throughout the Northeast Region. The job location cited as New London, CT refers to the project location for this role.
Responsibilities
Managing the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level.
Recommending process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
Routinely inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct hazards and ensure safety regulation compliance.
Monitoring the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coaching employees on correct behaviors when observed.
Developing environmental health and safety training materials (manuals, brochures, PowerPoint presentations, etc.).
Developing a paperwork management system to track training records for safety initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors.
Interpreting safety regulations for the project and coordinating safety training to support client requirements (new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout, etc.).
Interfacing with OSHA officials/inspector(s) during site visits as needed.
Qualifications
Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or related field preferred; required training/experience per project guidelines.
EM 385-1-1 Section 01.A.17 (required training, experience, and qualifications).
Minimum of 10 years, or 5 years on similar projects, in safety management on construction projects.
30-hour OSHA Construction training (or equivalent) within the last 5 years.
Average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training per year for the past 5 years.
Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on progressively complex projects.
Strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; comfortable with computer-based reporting and documentation.
Detail-oriented with a keen eye for discrepancies; able to work independently and in teams.
Professional interaction across all levels of management; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred (within the last two years).
Other Requirements
Regular, reliable attendance; ability to work safely and effectively following written and oral instructions.
Effective communication with supervisors, employees, and others in a team environment.
Ability to work during normal operating hours and adapt to different locations and conditions.
Compensation and Benefits Base Compensation: $130,000/yr - $140,000/yr
