Overview
Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow, inventory, and customer experience. Oversees staff development and performance management of pharmacy staff. Responsibilities
Patient Experience: Greets patients, assists with products and services, resolves issues to ensure a positive patient experience; models customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience. Engages with patients to anticipate needs and promotes Walgreens healthcare services, including patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and wellness services. Operations: Counsels patients on medication usage, side effects, interactions, privacy, generics, cost considerations, and OTC products; refers to medical providers as needed to ensure correct usage and satisfaction. Perform pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management; review, interpret, and dispense prescribed medications per regulations. Ensure pharmacy operations comply with regulations and company policies; establish efficient workflow, manage scheduling, roles, and shift changes; support opening/closing. Maintain Good Faith Dispensing considerations in line with state and federal laws for controlled substances; ensure elements of Good Faith are present. Collaborate with Store Manager on strategic business opportunities; maintain IT knowledge of pharmacy systems, support staff and patients with IT, and identify productivity improvements. Insurance and documentation: process insurance claims accurately, resolve patient issues with payors and providers, and conduct third-party audits as needed. Clinical services: follow up with providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; perform immunizations, disease state management, and other healthcare services. People & Performance Management
Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, termination, and legal compliance; promotes teamwork and shared vision. Oversees staff training and formal performance reviews; recognizes improvements and manages career progression. Training & Personal Development
Maintains required licensing/credentialing; pursues ongoing professional development through journals, Walgreens communications, and best practices. Completes required education credits and training; seeks feedback and uses mentors for development. Communications
Supports Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff. Business Performance Management
Analyzes performance data (pharmacy financials, customer service, inventory); oversees inventory control and asset protection; identifies trends and opportunities for improvement. Business Planning
Develops relationships with local medical community and promotes health and wellness in the community; supports Store Manager in expanding opportunities. Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution; current pharmacist licensure in states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including dispensing, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing. Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of applicable state and federal laws for controlled substances. About Walgreens
