Travis AFB, CA.

Employment Status: Full-Time Schedule: 12-hour shifts 3-4 times per week Day shift: 0645-1915 / Night Shift: 1845-0715 Benefits: Competitive financial package with a comprehensive insurance package including health, dental, vision, and life coverage. The

Psychiatric Technician

must have and meet the following:

Degree: Possess and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands OR Possess at least a level one national Psychiatric Technician certification or equivalent OR Possess and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse/ Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. LPN candidates are subject to credentialing. Education: Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program; or completion of equivalent education and experience that meets the requirement of the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) or completion of education and experience as a behavioral science specialist/technician in the United States military and proof of having completed an Armed Forces course involving psychiatric technician training or civilian course from an accredited school in the care of behavioral health patients. Psychiatric Technicians will have the ability to work at NMCSD while working to obtain their Certificate or License to allow for better recruitment efforts and increase current fill-rates. The Psychiatric Technicians must obtain their Certificate or License within 6 months of employment to continue performing services within the contract or face immediate termination. Experience: Have a minimum of 12 months of experience within the last 18 months as a Psychiatric Technician. Must have experience administering, scoring, and reporting psychological test results; interviewing patients to obtain biopsychosocial history, personal information; and assisting professional staff to carry out prescribed treatment plan. Must have knowledge of psychiatry, psychology, social work, family advocacy, and nursing principles, procedures and theories; confidentiality and legal aspects of patient care; understanding of medical, nursing, and mental health terminology; psychopathology; adjustment mechanisms; substance abuse pathology; anatomy and physiology; deviant and unacceptable behavior; principles of interpersonal relationships; counseling and interviewing techniques; diagnostic nomenclature; psychopharmacology; administration and scoring of psychological tests; medical and mental health ethics; medical and clinical records administration; principles of milieu therapy Must have experience conducting briefings, performing or supervising psychological test administration; and interviewing, and assisting in patient treatment, or substance abuse prevention and counseling. Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Job Summary

Participates in patient care conferences and substance abuse intervention. Provides mental health and substance abuse prevention education. Maintains therapeutic relationships. Conducts in-service training. Receives patients and schedules appointment. Evaluates mental health service activities. Collects and updates administrative and statistical data. Conducts unit self-assessments. Compiles and prepares medical and administrative reports. Briefs patients on safety and evacuation procedures. Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide and may be required to apply manual/physical restraints to prevent staff and patient injury. Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services. Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives. Conduct or assist in treatment and rehabilitation of patients. Perform initial basic assessment procedures including standardized psychological testing, clinical interviewing, mental status examinations, substance abuse evaluations, and psychological and nursing assessment. Identify mental health and nursing diagnoses and provide patient education. Observe, monitor, record, and report patient's progress. Conduct or assist in conducting group and individual counseling, therapeutic community, and other related milieu activities. Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide. Assist patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures. Obtain and record vital signs. Coordinate with other agencies regarding specified care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functions. Contact military and community agencies to obtain collateral information. Explain and interpret mental health services to patients or others. Assist in, or arrange patient referral to public, private, and military community agencies. Prepare and maintain records and reports pertaining to specialty services. Assist with care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactions. Prepare and maintain treatment records.
