Clinical Nurse B-CH (SSN) FIT - Full-Time, Night Shift The Clinical Nurse B-CH (SSN) Flexible Integrated Team (FIT) is part of Loma Linda University Shared Services (LLUSS) supplemental staffing. The FIT nurse functions out of a home department and is reassigned to a Loma Linda University Children's Hospital patient care department where additional staffing is needed to cover sick calls, vacations, federal and state legislative leaves or vacancies. Exhibits flexibility and readily accepts assignments where needed. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide and document direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) with minimal supervision and in accordance with established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) to achieve proficient individualized physical, psychosocial and spiritual wellness and provide compassionate bereavement support as appropriate. Functions in a skills mix environment and delegates tasks to unlicensed staff in accordance with scope of practice. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area of specialty. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications, competencies and staffing requirements as defined by SSN guidelines. Exhibits refined interpersonal skills that portray professionalism and maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Responsibilities

Provide and document direct and indirect patient care in an age-specific and developmentally appropriate manner in a fast-paced environment. Prioritize, coordinate, and accept assignments across departments as needed to cover sick calls, vacations, leaves, or vacancies. Perform the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) with minimal supervision. Apply the Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) in care delivery. Delegate tasks to unlicensed staff in accordance with scope of practice. Maintain professionalism and pursue ongoing knowledge expansion in the area of specialty. Provide compassionate bereavement support as appropriate and contribute to a caring work environment. Adhere to SSN guidelines for qualifications, licensure, certifications, competencies, and staffing requirements.

Education and Experience

Associate Degree or Diploma Degree in Nursing required. Minimum of one year of experience required. The CN-B is eligible to be promoted into the CN-C classification when criteria outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and job specifications outlined in CN-C job description are met. Completion of Basic Arrhythmia Recognition and Treatment course or equivalent required within six months of hire.

Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrates basic competencies in clinical nursing; applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and expands knowledge and skills with a focus in area of specialty and population served. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Professional behavior, calmness under pressure, courteous communication. Ability to speak, read and write English (Spanish preferred) with professional quality; proficient with computer, printer, software programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, EMR, event reporting); troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Strong communication, leadership, collaboration, critical thinking, and independent work capability. Ability to manage multiple assignments, organize and prioritize workload, problem solve, and maintain attention to detail. Visual and sensory acuity as required for patient care; ability to read computer screens, medical records, and documents.

Licensures and Certifications

Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
