The Surgical Technologist is part of the Operating Room team who provides and performs technical skills under the direct supervision of a physician or a registered nurse. This person assists the registered nurse in creating a safe, supportive and comforting environment for the patient in surgery. Responsibilities
Patient and families are served in providing direct patient care services. Perform duties and conduct interpersonal relationships with co-workers, physicians and other departments in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and hospital. Education
High School graduate. Graduate of approved operating room course for surgical technologist preferred. Experience
Previous experience preferred but not required. Licensure/Registration/Certification
CPR Certification Other Skills and Qualifications
Good interpersonal and communication skills, good manual dexterity, ability to work as a team member, ability to accept criticism, willingness to learn and cooperate, displays calm in acute stressful situations. Work Environment
Exposure to BBP requiring the use of personal protective equipment, exposure to other infectious diseases, exposure to radiation, chemicals, airborne pathogens and electrical hazards. May experience stressful work periods. Taking call required. Exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents, subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases. Physical Requirements
Must be able to engage in the following physical activities on a daily basis: lengthy periods of standing; moving stretchers, carts and equipment; carrying and lifting instrument sets (trays) and various items of equipment; maintain emotional stability; assist with positioning of patients.
