The
Optician
will dispense and fit spectacles, contact lenses, and other optical aids, working from prescriptions with assistance. They will advise patients on lens types and spectacle frames, including style, weight, and color, and instruct on their care. Responsibilities: Provide patient education on lens materials, products, and designs. Interpret and transpose prescriptions. Recommend appropriate eyeglass frames considering style, fit, and prescription. Determine optimal solutions based on frame design, lens materials, optics, and patient lifestyle. Perform adjustments and repairs, ensuring proper alignment, fit, and instructions for care. Accurately measure lens power, pupillary distance, segment height, and other parameters. Order custom lenses, monitor delivery, and communicate delays. Handle billing, insurance claims, and payments. Order and verify contact lenses and trials. Assist with product displays and monitor inventory levels. Maintain instruments and supplies. Participate in continuing education to maintain job knowledge. Troubleshoot issues with new glasses. Follow clinical workflow for smooth clinic-to-dispensary hand-offs. Work with team to meet sales goals. Perform duties professionally and courteously. Handle sensitive information confidentially. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred. Certification by American Board of Opticianry preferred. 1-2 years of retail optician experience required. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Understanding of eye anatomy and vision perception. Basic computer skills. Strong math skills for precise opticianry work and sales.
