Overview
The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers unique opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to transition from student to professional through a full-time, structured, year-long paid orientation to Oncology Nursing. The James is an National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and a home to pioneering cancer research, prevention and treatment in a university hospital setting. The James specializes in various areas of medical and surgical nursing specialties. The Nursing Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Medical Center through hands-on clinical experience, in-depth classroom learning, and ongoing professional and personal development. Each resident will be provided with support from a Nurse Residency Program Educator who has advanced nursing education and experience in transitioning new nurses to professionals and in the clinical specialty areas. The Nurse Residency Program Educator is responsible for scheduling, facilitating the personalized residency experience, revising the track-specific orientation pathway and evaluating progress based on multidisciplinary feedback and the resident\'s self-evaluation to provide progression. The Ohio State University Medical Center\'s mission is focused on integrating quality patient care, teaching and research. The Staff Nurse functions as a member of a team of care providers, cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team provides patient care and supportive services aimed at positive patient care outcomes, maximizing patient involvement in their plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and family and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. This is for the 2026 Perioperative (OR) New Graduate Nurse Residency Program Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care and coordinate nursing services within the perioperative/oncology setting as part of a multidisciplinary team. Support the resident education plan and participate in ongoing professional development. Demonstrate leadership, assess patient needs, and contribute to achieving positive patient outcomes. Qualifications
Graduate from a CCNE- or ACEN-accredited nursing program; current licensure or interim permit as a registered nurse in the State of Ohio; previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Program Details
