Overview
The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital Nurse Residency Program offers a Full-Time, structured, 14–20 week paid orientation to Oncology Nursing for newly licensed graduate nurses. The James is an National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and home to pioneering cancer research in a university hospital setting. The Nursing Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's model of novice to expert and includes hands-on clinical experience, classroom learning, and ongoing professional development. Each resident is supported by a Nurse Residency Program Educator who schedules, guides the residency, revises the orientation pathway, and evaluates progress with input from the multidisciplinary team and the resident’s self-evaluation. New Graduate Nurse Residency areas: Hematology Medical Oncology Surgical Oncology Progressive Care/Step Down (PCU) The James Cancer Hospital focuses on quality patient care, teaching and research. The Staff Nurse functions as a member of a care team, provides patient care and supportive services, aims to achieve positive patient outcomes, maximizes patient involvement in their plan of care, reduces length of stay, and supports cost effectiveness. The Staff Nurse assesses, prescribes, implements, coordinates, delegates and evaluates nursing care, prioritizes patient needs, and provides leadership to the patient care team. Residency Program Details This is for the 2025 New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. Qualifications Graduate from a CCNE- or ACEN-accredited nursing program required. Current licensure or interim permit in the practice of registered nursing in Ohio required. Previous experience in a relevant care setting preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Location and Schedule Location: James Cancer Hospital (0375) Position Type: Regular Scheduled Hours: 40 Shift: Rotating Other Information Final candidates are subject to a successful background check.
