Certified Physician Assistant
or
surgically experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
for the
Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology
department.
Sarasota
is located approximately 60 minutes south of Tampa. The area is known for the arts, great restaurants, world-class beaches, excellent schools, and a wide variety of activities for all ages.
Responsibilities Include
Working with the GI Oncology team, which includes two surgeons and three Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) providing four 10-hour shifts a week at one hospital. First and second assisting in the operating room. Rounding on inpatients, seeing consults and coordinating care of patients in the outpatient clinic. Weekday/weekend call will be shared equally with other providers (14).
Qualifications
General Surgery, or Surgical Oncology experience is preferred. Current NCCPA or ANCC certification required and must also have an active license by the State of Florida by the time of hire. Board Certified Physician Assistant, Board Certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner who has active, relevant and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 500 acute care inpatient encounters over two years). Board Certified Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner, who has active, relevant, and routine experience in 2 of the last 4 years (defined as at least 1,000 acute care inpatient encounters over two years). APPs are required to maintain appropriate DEA prescription privileges/licensure. BLS required. ACLS certification preferred.
Candidates must be able to work under minimal supervision in the assessment, planning and administration of patient care. Candidate will have responsibility for daytime and some after-hours on-call patient care.

'The Physician Assistant (PA) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The PA III typically works in a multidisciplinary setting including first assist, procedures (chest tube, line placement, etc), multiple inpatient units managing patient care which includes critical care, trauma, and surgery. A PA is a graduate with a master’s degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).'
Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Require bachelor degree from accredited physician assistant training program. Prefer ability to work independently and collaboratively. Prefer demonstrated written & verbal communication & strong analytical skills. Prefer ability to work independently and effectively with physicians and other allied health personnel in the hospital and/or office setting. Prefer demonstrated clinical competency skills. Prefer demonstrated knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to health care practice and current prescription writing skills/DEA licensing. Prefer demonstrated skills in documentation in medical records to substantiate accurate billing. Prefer effective interaction skills to ensure the successful care of patients in the clinical setting. Prefer effective leadership and strong interpersonal skills. Prefer knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations. Prefer knowledge of state, federal and local health care agencies and programs.
