GENERAL SUMMARY: Works under the administrative direction of the Director of Rehab Services and the supervision of the Supervisor of Occupational Therapy. Provides care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients on a PRN basis, working with Occupational Therapy Assistants and other qualified staff. Acts as a resource to occupational therapy assistants.

These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values, and behaviors of Mercy Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are expected to provide high-quality care, service, and kindness to all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.

Responsibilities include:

Performing occupational therapy evaluations.

Interpreting physician referrals and identifying precautions and contraindications.

Gathering pertinent patient information prior to evaluation.

Choosing and applying evaluation procedures.

Assessing mental, emotional, and cognitive status.

Setting and documenting measurable goals.

Completing evaluations and documentation timely.

Planning and implementing treatments.

Monitoring patient responses and revising plans as needed.

Instructing patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Recommending discharge plans and equipment.

Utilizing modalities and therapeutic exercises.

Participating in team conferences and rounds.

Ensuring safety and infection control procedures.

Administrative duties include:

Understanding policies and procedures.

Managing schedules and patient loads.

Maintaining accurate documentation.

Participating in performance improvement.

Attending meetings and delegating responsibilities.

Reporting significant developments.

Ensuring equipment safety and maintenance.

Teaching and educational responsibilities:

Educating patients, families, staff, and students.

Participating in continuing education and staying current on OT issues.

Minimum qualifications:

Graduate of an ACOTE-accredited occupational therapy program with appropriate certification and licensure.

Excellent interpersonal and computer skills.

Knowledge of EMR systems.
