Job Summary:
The Clinical Nurse B - Inpatient provides, coordinates, and documents age-specific, developmentally appropriate, and patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) following LLUMC's Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory). Embraces new knowledge, innovations, and practice improvements, applying theoretical concepts to clinical practice. Demonstrates self-motivation to expand knowledge and clinical skills, focusing on the area of specialty and patient population. Exhibits professionalism and maximizes customer service and patient safety. Works in a skills mix environment, supervising and delegating tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications, and competencies as outlined in the unit-specific Plan for Providing Care. Promotes a caring and cooperative work environment among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. May participate in on-call rotations and serve as Shift Coordinator after orientation. Performs additional duties as needed. Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired before April 1, 2020, an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing is required. Minimum of one year of experience is required. New hires may be promoted to CN-C classification upon meeting criteria outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and CN-C job description. Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrates basic clinical nursing competencies. Applies theoretical concepts to practice and continually expands knowledge, focusing on the area of specialty and population. Has basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation. Maintains professional behavior, works calmly under pressure, and responds courteously. Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English (Spanish preferred). Skilled in using computers, medical equipment, and software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical records). Capable of troubleshooting patient care equipment, performing technical activities, and communicating effectively. Demonstrates assertiveness, policy enforcement, leadership, critical thinking, independence, and organization. Manages multiple tasks, problem-solves, and pays attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells, discern temperature variances, and hear adequately for communication and safety. Licensures and Certifications:
Active California RN license required. BLS certification from the American Heart Association required. Additional certifications as specified in the department's Plan for Providing Care.
