Medical Assistant, Urgent Care

Mass General Brigham We are seeking a full-time, 37.5-hour Medical Assistant to work 3, 12.5-hour shifts per week onsite at our Boston Common Urgent Care center. The address is 137 Stuart Street, Boston, MA. Urgent care is a 7-day-per-week operation with care during the day, evening, weekends, and holidays, and the schedule may include on-call shifts, overtime, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed. On-call shifts may require commuting to other centers, including Brookline, Newton, Lynn, Natick, Westwood, and Woburn. Attendance at orientation or during staffing shortages for cross-coverage purposes may also be required. Free parking is available at all locations. Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Assist junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and onboarding training. Show patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and document information in the medical record. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions; organize educational materials to reinforce patient education. Perform general office duties (answering phones, dictation, insurance forms) while liaising with other departments and providing patient-focused service. Collect blood, tissue, or other specimens, log them, prepare for testing, and perform phlebotomy if competent. Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates; provide immunizations as applicable with certification or appropriate supervision. Support departmental quality initiatives (e.g., patient identifiers, hand hygiene). Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred National Medical Assistant Certification preferred (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT) Experience
1–2 years of direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to prioritize in busy environments; accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to comply with privacy regulations; take vital signs and blood pressure; collect samples; knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and medical office software. Analytical thinking, time management, and collaborative teamwork. Additional Job Details
