The Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is the area’s largest single family room NICU. This forty bed level IV NICU cares for all newborns born preterm or critically ill requiring surgical or medical management. The Nurse Clinician demonstrates a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the complex patients and their responses to actual or potential health problems. This role assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. Responsibilities: Direction, education, leadership and accountability for program development, implementation and evaluation in area of responsibility. Professional development and empowerment of staff as well as management of resources to promote desired outcomes with attention to quality, efficiency and cost. Requirements: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state. 5 years nursing experience required. Minimum of one year experience in the position's specialty patient population or practice setting. Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Must be enrolled in a Master’s degree program at the time of application and must be complete within 36 months of hire. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in staff education and professional development (orientation, preceptorship, in-services education, etc.). Academic health care experience.
