We are seeking Ixil (Ixel) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Ixil, an indigenous Mayan language spoken primarily in the El Quiché region of Guatemala, is a rare but high-demand language often needed for asylum and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Ixil (Ixel)
English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings. Interpret accurately, impartially, and with cultural sensitivity in immigration and legal contexts. Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards. Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests. Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews. Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Ixil (Ixel) and English. 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, legal, community, or NGO settings strongly preferred). Deep cultural understanding of Mayan/Guatemalan indigenous communities. Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards. Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance. Compensation & Benefits
