Job Overview
The US Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a highly skilled First Assistant Engineer Towboat to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining engine room and associated machinery, as well as serving as the principal assistant to the Chief Engineer. Key Responsibilities: Operate generators, power for captains, emergency plant, auxiliary machinery, winches, motors, sewage treatment system, and pumps. Responsible for care and security of tools and equipment assigned for mechanical and electrical repairs. Serve as the principal assistant to the Chief Engineer in the operation, maintenance, and repair of all engine room and associated machinery. Apply the Safety Requirements Manual, EM 385-1-1. Oil and grease all machinery by filling tanks or reservoirs to proper level and adjusting feed of lubricants to parts to be lubricated. Understand the principles of operation and repair of a diesel-powered engine, auxiliary machinery, utility system, etc. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily inside. There is some exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. When working outside, incumbent is exposed to inclement weather. Incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors. Typically the machinery worked on is dirty, oily, or greasy. Requirements: Must possess a U. S. Coast Guard license as an a) Designated Duty Engineer (minimum 2,000 HP, or; b) 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Assistant Engineer, (minimum 2000 HP) within 48 months of entry. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A Physical is required. Shift work is required. TDY of 20% is required.
