Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals. Ability to design and deliver courses in different modalities (in-person, online, hybrid). Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities. Oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency. Ability to assess student learning outcomes. Knowledge of and willingness to explore new technologies and teaching practices that benefit students and programs. Experience showing sensitivity to diverse backgrounds of community college students, including those with disabilities. Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission. Specific Responsibilities
Meet classes/laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar and during intersessions and summer sessions. Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and District guidelines. For online and hybrid courses, maintain online course components and provide regular student-student and student-instructor contact. Develop and distribute a syllabus during the first week of class, communicating course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements. Provide regular, timely feedback to students and return graded work promptly. Assign final grades in accordance with District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5. Respect student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws. Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner and with cost considerations for students. Refer students to tutoring and related student services as appropriate. Supervise students in off-campus activities when required by the course or instructor load. Provide academic assistance and related services during scheduled office hours. Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline. Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes, timely and accurately. Discipline-specific classroom responsibilities as assigned. Additional Responsibilities: Participate in the evaluation process as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement; continue to develop professional skills and current subject matter knowledge; maintain and submit official records; comply with District policies on property and safety; report absences; recommend instructional supplies and equipment as needed; fulfill obligations in the current collective bargaining agreement. Other Activities: Part-time faculty are encouraged to engage in activities such as maintaining office hours, participatory governance, curriculum review, program review, department and division meetings, assessment of learning outcomes, and required professional development for improved pedagogy. Education and Experience
Education Required: Master’s in mathematics or applied mathematics OR Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR the equivalent. Experience Required: Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and learning disabilities. Additional Information
Equivalency: The state of California has established minimum qualifications for academic positions in California Community Colleges. Applicants who do not meet the minimum education requirements may be qualified through equivalency. The district provides standards for equivalency determination.
