Master’s degree in English, English Education, Creative Writing or Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in English from a regionally accredited institution Two to five years of teaching experience Proven knowledge of and experience in composition instruction Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written Ability to work with and teach to diverse populations Ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies in instructional contexts Ability to develop and/or implement strategies to support students’ retention, persistence, and program completion Ability to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process Ability to communicate the concepts and theories of English in practical ways Ability to teach in a variety of formats including, but not limited to, live/traditional, online, and blended Ability to work collaboratively to improve student outcomes Proven ability to work collaboratively in course development, assessment, and revision All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Preparing, instructing, and grading all class coursework Assigning final grades Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students Ability to use data and assessment tools in the evaluation and improvement of instruction Engaging in activities to improve student learning, retention, and completion Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities associated with teaching a minimum of 36 semester hours annually Preparing a syllabus for each course; instructing assigned classes Grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments; and entering grades in Blackboard gradebook in a timely manner Assigning final grades Developing and maintaining course management through college’s learning management system Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students Assisting in the preparation and in course planning and development, as requested Assisting in implementing strategies to support students’ retention, persistence, and program completion essential Appropriately integrating computer software and technology-based instruction Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the college administration Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
