Expectations and Responsibilities

Education:
High School Diploma / GED Requirements:
Current PTSB Coaching Certificate and current CPR / First Aid card Coaches must be available to work afternoons, evenings, nights, and weekends (excluding Sundays) to accommodate practice and game schedules. Practice sessions are scheduled Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, game days, and Sundays. All activities and sports sponsored by Natrona County School District (NCSD) must conclude by 6 pm at middle schools and 6:30 pm at high schools on Wednesdays, in accordance with Board Policy 1200 regarding Parent and Community Night. Coaches are expected to cooperate and coordinate with the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director (AD) or Athletics/Activities Designee and/or Administrator on matters including: Scheduling contests, practices, and parent meetings Handling complaints and grievances Implementing and enforcing the code of conduct and participant eligibility requirements Purchasing equipment and uniforms Managing bus transportation Supervising during activity trips Developing emergency action plans and safety checklists Fundraising and legal compliance Additional responsibilities include: Assigning locks and lockers efficiently Distributing and collecting equipment and uniforms Starting practices as early as permitted by regulations Communicating expectations for active supervision during all practice and competition sessions Understanding and managing undue influence and the complaint process Aligning strategies across sports Enforcing attendance policies and reviewing team handbooks annually Participating in evaluation processes and compliance training Ensure all athletic participants: Have a current physical exam before practice begins Are informed of NCSD’s Code of Conduct and eligibility rules Have access to insurance coverage before practice Review safety and concussion information, and provide emergency contacts Ensure equipment and uniforms are: Inspected, cleaned, repaired, and properly maintained Distributed and stored securely Used correctly with proper instruction Maintain a safe and orderly environment in locker and equipment rooms, and ensure all injuries are reported immediately using the NCSD Injury Reporting Form. All volunteers and staff must understand their duties, and the program’s goals should reflect school and district values. Awards should be distributed fairly following requirements. For overnight trips, only participants are allowed in rooms unless emergencies or misconduct are involved. Co-educational trips require separate rooms for each gender, and opposite gender visits are prohibited. Communicate schedules, equipment distribution, eligibility, and rules to all participants and parents. Attendance at annual coaches meetings is mandatory. Coaches are responsible to the head coach, AD, Principal, and/or Administrator for conduct, rule enforcement, transportation, record-keeping, and compliance. Provide necessary trip documentation and complete safety checklists each season. Know and enforce transportation policies, and ensure all safety protocols are followed, including concussion and emergency procedures. Head Coach Responsibilities: Promote sportsmanship and coordinate with athletic trainers Ensure transportation policies are followed Maintain current certifications Communicate performance and conduct expectations Assist in evaluating coaching staff Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Attend professional development Organize work effectively and exercise judgment Maintain effective relationships and communicate well Represent NCSD professionally and respond to emergencies effectively Safety: Promote safety culture and review safety procedures annually Operate equipment safely and report hazards Inspect facilities and equipment regularly Follow concussion protocols and emergency action plans Enforce health safety requirements, including COVID-19 protocols
